Hello everyone, I hope you are having a swell week! I recently came across a quote that sparked a much more than subtle reaction in my brain and heart. This quote is attributed to one of my favorite authors, F. Scott Fitzgerald, or as I like to call him, Fitz. (No, he's not the President in Scandal) As I read these words, I thought to myself, "wow this sounds so pretty." However, it stirred my heart to peer into the mind of Fitz and try to see if there was perhaps a message that was transcendent. So here is the quote: "She was beautiful, but not like those girls in the magazines. She was beautiful, for the way she thought. She was beautiful, for the sparkle in her eyes when she talked about something she loved. She was beautiful, for her ability to make other people smile, even if she was sad. No, she wasn't beautiful for something as temporary as her looks. She was beautiful, deep down to her soul. She is beautiful." (under your breath, "wow that is pretty!" or "the guy who said this, wins at life on all levels!")
Stunning. Beautiful. What makes one beautiful? What or who defines beauty? We live in an era that is consumed with self image and beauty that unfortunately doesn't radiate from the inside, rather instead from the exterior. How fascinating it is that Fitz's era (the 1920s) was surrounded with that struggle as well. A lot of girls, woman, and even guys, label their worth on their exterior. We all, even myself, can attest to struggling with comparison, self doubt, and putting pressure on yourself. I'm not saying that the exterior is meaningless. I am, however, saying that your exterior doesn't define you. True beauty radiates from within. Like Fit's says, "She was beautiful: in the way she thought (intricacies, sense of self, mind); when she talked about something she liked (passions); making others smile, even when sad (charisma, character, sense of humor, fun, selfless); for her soul (un-fleeting, core)." We live in a world that is fleeting. Never place your worth on something or someone that is fleeting. Ehem, the only one you should every but your worth is in Christ, for he formed you and called you His, plus he is the only thing that will remain. #Comforting! Your inner core, your soul, who you are is beautiful. Yes, we've all heard, "true beauty lies within", but do we firmly believe that? How would the world look like if we all truly believed that? Let yourself radiate. Be bold in that confidence that radiates and eradicates your insecurities. Relish in the joy that comes from that confidence and let's empower each other to embrace all of our quirks and all of our beautiful attributes that make us each different, beautiful, and ourselves. There is only one of you in this world. Only one that is exactly who you are. Embrace that.
You are beauty.
